Capacity Builiding Workshop, Improve Trade Policy Formulation, Implementation of Customs Union and the Integration of COMESA Member States into the Multilateral Trading System
The project aimed to strengthen the participation of COMESA Member States in the WTO negotiations and to promote and defend their rights and commercial and economic interests. A capacity building workshop took place in Nairobi, Kenya, with the participation of two government representatives of each COMESA country.
The workshop was intended to: improve the understanding of the issues under negotiation in the WTO; improve the ability to identify business opportunities and prepare proposals to the WTO bodies; improve the understanding and analytical skills of government staff, in order to contribute to the strategic decision-making on trade policy; promote the establishment of trade points to disseminate business and trade opportunities that may result from negotiations.
The areas focused include international trade of agricultural products, non-agricultural market access (NAMA) and trade in services.
