São Tome and Principe is one of the poorest countries of the African continent. Despite several plans to fight poverty that have taken place in recent decades, progress is still limited. In fact it is estimated that this scourge currently affects around 66% of the population.
It is in this context that CESO is supporting the Centre for Poverty Reduction in the implementation of a monitoring and evaluation system for the Strategy for Poverty Reduction.
Under the Poverty Reduction Strategy outlined for the period 2012-2016, some strategic objectives were traced and estimate a reduction of 10% of the population living in poverty.
This requires a growth and diversification of the economy, the promotion of income-generating activities that can provide an improvement of productive capacity and, also, for ensuring better access to basic social services for the population.
The project will operate on the following axes:
- Through the creation and definition of a Poverty Reduction monitoring management system at the institutional organization level;
- Predicting the creation and definition of a conceptual base (method and process) for the monitoring and evaluation system of the National Strategy to Combat Poverty;
- Regarding human resources, by strengthening the capacity of the parties involved in the Strategy monitoring and evaluation system.
The project is expected to last four months. It is part of the Economic and Financial Management Project (PAGEF) funded by the African Development Bank.
