In Cameroon the wide majority of the population, about 60%, works in the agricultural sector, which represents around 20% of de GDP. Ensuring more than half of the exporting revenues that come mostly from Europe, this sector is the one that, just after the oil sector, contributes the most to foreign exchange inflows in the country
The rural development strategy is, therefore, considered by the national government authorities as the main instrument for poverty fighting.
It is in this general context that, in recent years, there has been implemented the "Program Support to Improve Agricultural Productivity.” It is there attributed to professional organizations representing agriculture and livestock promotion of essential food production, such as food, oil seeds, dairy products in the northern region and exports, including coffee and cocoa, in the southern regions.
Within the framework contracts funded by the European Union, the Program is currently being assessed by a project headed by Cowi and having CESO as consortium partner. Entitled "Mid Term Evaluation of the Support Program to Improve Agricultural Productivity in Cameroon", it aims to formulate an objective and systematic assessment concerning the Program design and implementation, as well as on the results achieved.
By the integration of previous experiences, it is expected it will provide useful and reliable information in the decision making process, to take either by beneficiaries or by the Delegation of the European Union.
